A serious, multidimensional wine is the 2022 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Hommage à Jean Morin, which returns to the range this year after an absence in 2021. Wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, rose petals, orange zest, exotic spices and grilled squab, it's full-bodied, layered and elegantly muscular, with a concentrated core of fruit framed by a chassis of rich, powdery tannin. RP
A more subtle though still perceptible application of wood frames brooding but elegant, pure and ripe aromas of various dark berries, cassis, violet and pretty spice nuances. The rich, powerful and impressively concentrated broad-shouldered flavors coat the palate while offering excellent persistence and even better depth. Magnificent. BH
Even more reserved than the Vieilles Vignes bottling, the 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Hommage a Jean Morin unwinds in the glass with notes of plums, smoky berry fruit, rich soil tones, spices, orange rind and cherries. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and textural, with prodigious reserves of fruit and rich, powdery tannin. Lively and perfumed, I can't wait to revisit it in bottle. RP
A markedly ripe but fresh nose is comprised by aromas of black raspberry, plum, kirsch, warm earth and plenty of floral top notes. There is good vibrancy to the sleek, velvety and reasonably concentrated flavors that coat the palate with dry extract that buffers the firm slightly chewy finish that reflects touches of warmth and rusticity. This robust and powerful yet classy effort is coming along nicely. BH
